Project Brief:
Bengaluru, facing severe water scarcity, has witnessed the degradation of its once-thriving lake ecosystem. Previously sustained by a network of a thousand lakes, the city now relies on a costly water system spanning 100 kilometers, leading to significant environmental and financial burdens. Despite historic tank systems and wetlands, urban development has neglected these vital ecosystems, resulting in water scarcity, urban flooding, and biodiversity loss. The project, centered around wetland ecosystems of North Bengaluru, aims to address these pressing issues by exploring the intricate relationship between water, ecology, and human intervention in urban areas.
Design Brief:
Puttenahali Lake, North Bengaluru harbors a diverse array of insect species which have received limited attention despite their role as bioindicators of the lake's ecological health. This communication project aims to raise awareness of the intricate and rich world of insects at the lake through multifaceted approach employing creative information design and storytelling through quirky illustrations. An interactive website and social media posts are elements of the awareness and conservation campaign to reach a wide audience, engage various demographics and foster changed perceptions, while encouraging increased interaction with the wetland space. By ensuring that the content is fun, visually rich, and accessible both online and in print, the aim is to break barriers to interest in insects and maximize user engagement. The scope of this project is the order of Odonata which includes Dragonflies and Damselflies but it can be expanded and extrapolated across ecological and spatial contexts.
